about mana

hoi, I’m mana, a smol creacher that lives inside of your computer (or phone, depending on how you’re seeing this!). I like writing, drawing, music, and fawning over pretty girls. bwush

i’ve been online since the before times, and it’s the one place I really feel like I belong. stuff like gender (which i personally find pretty confusing) and attraction don’t super matter online, so it’s given me room to experiment and really be myself.

I love languages.
I've always been fascinated by languages & linguistics, and want to learn to say something in as many languages as possible! I'm always open to learning new words & languages, and can speak Japanese & German somewhat proficiently in addition to being a native English speaker. I know a few words in lots of different languages, though!
surrealism is really interesting to me.
the surrealist movement is probably my favorite art movement I learned about when I was studying in university. I'm fascinated by things that seem very real but are somehow 'wrong,' either in look or in logic, that evoke the feeling of being in a dream. as a result I'm fascinated by filmmakers like David Lynch, writers like Murakami Haruki, and artists like René Magritte.
I live in a city, but grew up in the countryside.
currently, I live in a medium-sized city, but I spent most of my formative years in a very small town in the rural midwestern united states. I'm used to city life and enjoy its comforts, but will always be more at home out in the middle of nature, far from other people. I think a lot of why I really enjoy being alone is a result of my upbringing.
I love yuri.
I am exhausted by the wealth of stories in my culture centered around men and their conquest of women. My love of yuri started out as a disdain for male-dominated media that was ubiquitous during my youth (and remains so to this day). As I found out more about anime & manga and the wealth of stories by, about, and for women & girls, and eventually discovered my own attraction to women, I began to outgrow my "not like other girls" phase and embraced my love of hyperfemininity and romance, which lead me to discover and appreciate the wealth of girls love stories out there.
Learning to love yourself, too, can be yuri. catwub
I love women.
You'd think this would be pretty similar to my love of yuri, and it is informed by the same feelings, but manifests differently enough that I felt comfortable making this its own bullet point. >ω<;;
I think women are so cool, and brave, and smart, and talented! I want to celebrate and appreciate everything women have done for the world, and that means that I appreciate shows, books, films, and comics that feature primarily femme casts and listen to mostly femme singers & girl groups.
You will not see me getting excited about male characters or blorbos unless they're very special.
