you can make a website
did you know u can just make a website?? itâs true! all you need is a place to put the dang thing, be that somewhere simple like neocities or nekoweb, or somewhere more complex like gitlab or codeberg pages! you can just be a fucking webmaster!!!
all you have to do is create a motherfucking website. maybe youâll learn from your initial attempt and make better and even better websites. maybe someday youâll even make the best motherfucking website. maybe one day itâll even be the perfect motherfucking website.
but you donât have to have such a lofty goal as all that - you can just slap whatever u want on there! but what if nobody reads it? donât worry, iâll read it! just do it if itâs something you wanna do! whatâs stopping you?? thereâs tons of guides out there, just try searching!
the only time itâs too late to learn or do something is when youâre dead. if youâre reading this, then youâre not dead! so whatever it is that youâre thinking about doing, just give it a try!
but mana wtf do i put on it?
I got asked recently about this on retrospring and frankly, yeah, I feel that! I never really know what Iâm doing here either, and not having any ârulesâ or guidelines can be a little overwhelming!!!
So hereâs some suggestions:
Start simple with something like an about page. if you have any hobbies, write about them! even if itâs something like âI just started getting interested in this hobby and I bought some supplies but I havenât done anything yet!â - thatâs content! You can talk about what you wanna learn to make or do and then talk about whatever you buy for that hobby as well!
If you write stories or fanfiction or anything like that, having your own webbed site is a great way to host your own work and not have to worry about upholding community guidelines or being advertiser-friendly, or the admin turning out to be a terf or smth like that.
Make a page of all your blorbos or original characters and why you like them, tell us all about them! draw a picture of them or post commissioned art you got of them!
Make a page of your favorite books, or favorite anything really.
Make a shrine to the best meal or dessert you ever had, or a book that changed your life, or your favorite poem or piece of art, or video game, etc.
Make a page thatâs just concerts youâve been to or want to go to someday.
Make a page talking about your personal style if youâre into fashion, or how you do your makeup or hair if youâre into those things!
Make a mixtape for your website, like a soundtrack, that your followers/visitors can download & listen to while they browse!
Start small and I think once youâve made a couple of pages, youâll begin to get a feel for the kinds of websites/pages you want to make! When I started I had no idea wtf I wanted to do, I just knew I wanted the site to exist, and Iâve kind of gone from there. Itâs a skill like anything else, and practice will make it easier.
In the meantime, Iâd suggest checking out the indieweb wiki entry for pages to see some commonly-made pages on personal websites. Iâd also suggest checking out:
